Why Eastern Shore Patients Choose Apex HRT
Apex HRT started as a hormone therapy practice, and that is still how we run things: one provider who gets to know you, a real medical office, and no pressure. IV hydration at our Chester office follows the same approach.
- You talk to a provider, not a salesperson. Ryan Hess, NP, reviews your health and helps pick the drip. You won’t get pushed into the biggest package.
- Your drip fits your situation. What you need after a stomach bug is different from what you need after a hot day on the water. We adjust for that.
- One office for your other care. We also handle testosterone replacement in Chester, peptides, weight loss medication, and thyroid care.
- Local and easy to reach. No drive to Annapolis or Easton. We are right here on Kent Island.

How IV Hydration Works
IV hydration therapy delivers fluids directly into a vein through a small catheter in your arm or hand. Treatment may use normal saline, which contains sodium chloride, or lactated Ringer’s solution, which contains additional electrolytes. Your provider determines the appropriate fluid and whether any vitamins or medications are indicated based on your health history and clinical assessment.
Because the fluid goes directly into your bloodstream, your body does not have to absorb it through the stomach first. That is the main difference between an IV and drinking a sports drink.
Shore Summers Are Hard on Your Body
Outdoor work and recreation on Kent Island can increase fluid loss during hot weather. For most people who can drink normally, oral fluids are sufficient. If you develop dehydration symptoms, a healthcare professional can assess whether oral hydration, IV fluids, or another level of care is appropriate.
Signs you may be more dehydrated than you think include dark urine, a pounding headache, dizziness when you stand up, muscle cramps, and feeling unusually tired. If you are confused, have a racing heart, or can’t keep fluids down at all, go to the ER.

You settle into a recliner and we place a small IV in your arm. IV placement time varies from patient to patient.
Let it drip
The bag usually takes 30 to 60 minutes. Bring a book, put in headphones, or just close your eyes.
Head out
We take out the IV, put on a bandage, and you are free to go. Drink water for the rest of the day.
IV Hydration Safety
IV hydration is low risk for most healthy adults when it is given by trained medical staff in a clinic. Like any procedure, it is not risk free, so here is what to know.
Possible side effects
- A small bruise or some tenderness where the IV went in
- Feeling cool, slightly lightheaded, or having a mild headache during the drip
- Rarely, an infection at the IV site, vein irritation, or an allergic reaction
Tell us before your visit if you have
- Heart failure or another heart condition
- Kidney problems
- High blood pressure
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Any allergy to vitamins, medications, or latex
Your heart and kidneys manage the fluid in your body. If either one is not working well, adding fluid through an IV can cause problems. That is why we screen every new patient, and why we will tell you if an IV is not a safe choice for you.
IV wellness therapy is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. If you have chest pain, trouble breathing, confusion, or can’t keep any fluids down for more than a day, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
Chester IV Hydration FAQs
How long will I be at the Chester office for an IV?
Plan on about an hour. The drip itself usually runs 30 to 60 minutes, and your first visit takes a little longer because we go over your health history and check your vitals before we start.
What does getting an IV feel like?
There is a short pinch when the catheter goes into your vein, similar to having blood drawn. Once it is in, the needle is removed and only a soft, thin tube stays in place. Some people notice a cool feeling in the arm while the fluid runs.
Who should not get IV hydration?
IV fluids are not a good fit for everyone. People with congestive heart failure, kidney disease, poorly controlled high blood pressure, or certain allergies may need to skip it or get clearance first. We also ask about pregnancy and breastfeeding. Your screening is how we figure this out.
Can I drive home after my IV?
Most people drive themselves home or back to work right after. If you came in feeling very sick or lightheaded, bring someone to drive you just in case.
How soon will I feel a difference?
Many people say they feel better within an hour or so of finishing their drip, especially if they came in dehydrated. Results vary from person to person, and an IV is not a cure for an underlying illness.
Do you take walk-ins in Chester?
No. The Chester office is by appointment only, Monday through Saturday. Call (240) 607-3195 or send the form on this page to book.
How much is an IV drip at the Chester office?
Pricing depends on which drip you get and whether you add anything to it. Call (240) 607-3195 and we will walk you through current prices before you book.
I already see Apex for TRT. Can I get an IV too?
Yes, in most cases. Let us know which medications you take, including testosterone, peptides, or weight loss medication, and your provider will assess whether IV hydration is appropriate for you.
